Ford has filed for a patent to facilitate the repossession process.
If you fail to meet your payments, Ford vehicles could potentially take themselves back, and drive away.
As per The Drive, Ford stands alone in its effort to secure a patent for a system that can be implemented
on any of its forthcoming automobiles with a data connection. The patent document, named 'Systems and Methods to Repossess a Vehicle', was lodged with the United States Patent Office in August 2021, and was revealed on 23rd February.
The document states that the new system has the ability to 'turn off one or more features of the car', including the engine and air conditioning.
Vehicles with autonomous or semi-autonomous driving capabilities could be shifted from their original location to a spot that would make it easier for a tow truck to take possession of the car, thus simplifying the repossession process for banks.
