Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has passed away at the age of 83.
The renowned designer's eponymous luxury brand, Roberto Cavalli, announced his death through a post on its official Instagram account on April 12.
"A life lived with Love. It is with great sadness that today we say our final goodbyes to our founder, Roberto Cavalli. From humble beginnings in Florence, Roberto succeeded in becoming a globally recognized name, loved and respected by all, naturally talented and creative. Roberto believed that everyone can discover and nurture the artists within themselves. Roberto Cavalli's legacy will live on via his creativity, his love of nature and via his family, who he cherished," reads the statement shared on the brand's Instagram page.
The statement also features several quotes attributed to the designer.
"Surround yourself with love because love will be the beacon of your life," one of the quotes reads.
Another quote states, "I copy the dress of an animal because I love to copy God. I think God is the most fantastic designer."
In the comments section of the post, various users expressed their condolences and shared memories of the designer.
"A huge void," wrote Lorella Flego, a Scandinavian television presenter. "Rest in peace, my crazy Florentine."
"Rest in peace legend, the one and only," Noor Mian wrote.
According to the company's website, Cavalli began his journey as an art student and ventured into launching his clothing line during the 1970s. Vogue Runway previously reflected on how his designs mesmerized the fashion industry across two significant eras: the '70s, when his creations adorned stars like Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren, and the '90s.
In 2006, Time magazine recalled how his creations epitomized the spirit of the '90s and early 2000s, an era marked by opulent embellishments on casual attire becoming the epitome of style. Celebrities such as the late singer Aaliyah showcased his patterns for significant red carpet events.
In 2016, Beyoncé graced the screen wearing a yellow, off-the-shoulder Cavalli gown in her music video "Hold Up."
More recently, Cavalli and his designs experienced a resurgence in popularity among younger fashion enthusiasts nostalgic for the styles of the late '90s and early 2000s.
