Angie Harmon, known for her role in "Law & Order," revealed that an Instacart driver fatally shot her dog while delivering groceries in Charlotte, North Carolina, over the Easter weekend.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department informed NBC News that they responded to a report of a dog being shot just before noon on March 30. Upon arrival, officers spoke with all involved parties.
According to the police statement, the delivery driver claimed the dog attacked him while he was delivering "consumable goods" to the residence. He fired one shot at the dog in self-defense. Another dog at the home did not engage in the attack, police noted.
No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the incident, and police are not seeking additional witnesses, the CMPD stated. The delivery driver has not been publicly identified by the police.
Instacart, in a statement to NBC News, expressed deep sadness and concern over the incident. They emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards violence and immediately suspended the shopper's account from their platform. Instacart also stated they have been in direct communication with the customer and are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.
Harmon took to Instagram on April 1st to express her anguish, revealing that the delivery driver shot her dog, Oliver, while she was at home with her daughters.
"He exited his vehicle, delivered the food, and THEN proceeded to shoot our dog," Harmon recounted. "Our ring camera was charging inside the house, which he noticed, allowing him to realize he wasn't being recorded. Despite this, the police released him claiming 'self-defense.' Not a scratch or bite was found on him, nor were his pants torn."
The "Rizzoli & Isles" actress further disclosed that the man callously admitted to shooting her dog, stating, "Yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah, I did."
"We are utterly traumatized and devastated by the loss of our cherished companion and family member," Harmon lamented.
She shared her post detailing the incident on her Instagram story along with an additional caption.
"To the individual who took Ollie from us: your actions are reprehensible and unforgivable," she penned. "You have not only stolen a cherished member of our family but you have also inflicted unimaginable trauma upon us. The sheer callousness of such an act is incomprehensible to me, and I am devastated that I didn't have the chance to bid him farewell."
A representative for Harmon did not provide an immediate response to a request for further comment regarding the incident.
