Months before becoming a couple, Travis Kelce was already making Taylor Swift laugh, according to Saturday Night Live (SNL) star Ben Marshall and his comedy trio partners, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy, known as Please Don’t Destroy. They revealed that Taylor Swift was impressed with Kelce's comedic talent when he hosted SNL in March 2023 following the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl win.

“We worked with both Taylor and Travis Kelce, like, before they got together,” Marshall shared on Mike Birbiglia’s “Working It Out” podcast. “We — and we can cut this out if you guys don’t want to say this — but she kind of told us that she watched his ‘SNL’ episode and saw him in our video, and was like, ‘Oh, this guy seems funny,’” recalled Marshall.

Marshall playfully suggested that Please Don’t Destroy might have played a role in bringing Swift and Kelce together.

“So, like, a little bit (we) brought them together,” he joked.

The trio initially considered sharing what Swift had revealed about Kelce when they appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last fall, said Marshall.

However, they changed their minds, fearing that fans might hold them responsible if Swift and Kelce were to ever break up.

“We were like, ‘I think that if then they ever break up, we will somehow be, like, pinned for causing this disaster,’” said Marshall, emphasizing the precarious situation due to people's strong feelings about the couple.

Swift collaborated with Please Don’t Destroy in November 2021, filming a music video called “Three Sad Virgins” alongside then-"SNL" cast member Pete Davidson, roasting the comedy trio.

The Grammy winner first hosted and appeared as the musical guest on "SNL" in November 2009 and has made multiple appearances on the show since.

Kelce joined forces with Please Don’t Destroy for a short video during the episode he hosted a year ago. The NFL star received praise for his comedic skills, portraying various characters, including an eccentric self-defense instructor, a pink-suited man dining with American Girl dolls, and a hunky reality show contestant.

Both Kelce and Swift returned to "SNL" for the Season 49 premiere on October 14, 2023. Swift made a surprise cameo to introduce the night's musical guest, rapper Ice Spice, while Kelce appeared in a sketch poking fun at the NFL's newfound Taylor Swift obsession.
