Video game streaming sensation Ninja, known in real life as Tyler Blevins, age 32, has revealed he has been diagnosed with skin cancer.

Announcing the news on March 26 through X, the popular online personality expressed his surprise upon learning that a mole on his foot was cancerous following a routine skin and mole examination a few weeks ago.

Detailing the ordeal, he shared, "There was a mole on the bottom of my foot that they wanted to remove just to be cautious. It turned out to be melanoma, but thankfully, they are hopeful that we've caught it in its early stages."

The esports pro mentioned that there was another "dark spot" close to the area of the biopsied mole. He underwent a procedure to remove a "larger area around the melanoma" in the hope that subsequent tests would indicate "clear non-melanoma edges," providing assurance that they successfully removed it.

As of NBC News' inquiry, a spokesperson for Blevins had not responded.

Melanoma, as described by the American Cancer Society, is a form of skin cancer that occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, begin to proliferate uncontrollably.

While melanoma is less common compared to other types of skin cancers, it is considered more perilous due to its higher likelihood of spreading to other body parts if not detected and treated promptly, as highlighted by the American Cancer Society.

Blevins concluded his message by urging his fans to prioritize routine skin cancer screenings. "I’m thankful to have caught this early, but please take this as a reminder to schedule regular skin checkups," he emphasized.

Blevins holds the distinction of being the most prominent figure on the streaming platform Twitch, where he commands a following of over 19 million and showcases his gaming prowess in titles such as Fortnite. Additionally, he boasts nearly 24 million subscribers on YouTube.

In 2019, Blevins made a guest appearance on the Fox reality singing competition "The Masked Singer."
