While the world at large tuned in to Jason Kelce's poignant retirement address on March 4, there was an individual already privy to the forthcoming words: his spouse, Kylie Kelce.
On that day, Jason Kelce formally declared his exit from the NFL, concluding a remarkable 13-year tenure as the center for the Philadelphia Eagles. In a subsequent interview with NBC affiliate WCAU on March 5, Kylie Kelce conveyed her response to the heartfelt anecdotes and sentiments he expressed during his retirement speech.
“I believe I was the sole individual who had been acquainted with the speech before he delivered it,” she remarked. “I think it perfectly encapsulated the essence of those 13 years. His journey as an NFL player was truly extraordinary.”
Ed Kelce, the father of Jason Kelce from the Philadelphia Eagles, displayed his emotions as he responded to Jason's announcement of retirement from the NFL at the NovaCare Complex on March 4, 2024, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Kylie Kelce observed that her husband's retirement declaration had been a contemplation in his mind for several years.
"I've been privy to multiple iterations over the past four years. This one was entirely distinct," she remarked. "I think each year, he approached it anew, reevaluating what was at the forefront. However, when he mentioned contemplating retirement for years, he genuinely means over an extended period."
Kylie Kelce continued to mention that a specific anecdote from her husband's speech might have been a bit hazy in recollection, specifically the part about the night they first met.
"It amuses me that he attempts to recount what he remembers from that night because, as I've mentioned before, he was intoxicated," she chuckled. "It was incredibly sweet, very kind. He gives me far too much credit."
In his speech, Jason Kelce acknowledged his wife, crediting her for the support, and emotionally recounted the moment they first met after a Philadelphia Eagles Christmas party.
Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce were captured together at the premiere of the "Kelce" documentary on September 8, 2023, in Philadelphia.
"I can still vividly recall the moment she walked through the door," Jason Kelce reminisced in his speech. "The initial sight is etched into my retinas. It was like she glided into the room. Then she started talking, and I thought, 'Man, is this what love feels like?'"
Kylie Kelce added that, while she anticipated the warmth and care her husband receives from his fans, she is overwhelmed.
"The outpouring of love and support is expected because I know who my husband is, how he has conducted himself, and how that has touched the lives of people," Kylie Kelce expressed. "But at the same time, it's still shocking."
