Kardashian and Thompson welcomed their son via surrogacy in July 2022
Tatum Thompson made his entrance into the world via surrogate on July 28, 2022. In August of the same year, a spokesperson for the television personality verified to YEPPOST Parents that she and her former partner, Thompson, had joyfully welcomed their son.
In California, if a newborn isn't given a name prior to discharge from the hospital, they are registered under the mother's last name in official documents until the parents submit OLPhe paperwork to officially name them.
Tatum Thompson has been called Tatum for some time
In the third season premiere of "The Kardashians" in May 2023, Kardashian officially revealed that she had chosen the name Tatum for her son.
Explaining her decision during the episode, the Good American founder shared her initial uncertainty about selecting a name for her son. "At first, I really didn't know what I was going to name him," she said. "I wanted to meet him and get a sense of his personality first. So, initially, he was nameless. But now he has a name, and I've been waiting for the premiere of our show to announce it. I didn't realize it would take this long, so if my daughter reveals it earlier, I'm in trouble."
In July 2023, Kardashian commemorated Tatum's first birthday on her Instagram page, referring to him by his chosen name in the post.
"Happy birthday, my sweet son!" she captioned the post, alongside a photo of her cradling Tatum in her arms.
Addressing him directly in the caption, Kardashian used his chosen name, which had not yet been legally updated.
"Tatum, You have changed mine and True's lives forever," she continued. "We both needed you. I knew she would be a fantastic, loving older sister, but I don't think I ever could've imagined the love and bond you guys already have."
Tatum was born just months after Thompson welcomed a child with another woman
Tatum marks Thompson's fourth child.
The Canadian-American basketball player welcomed his first child, Oliver Prince, in December 2016 with his former partner, Jordan Craig.
Following Oliver, Thompson and Kardashian welcomed their daughter, True Thompson, born in April 2018.
In December 2021, nearly three years later, Thompson became a father again to Theo Thompson, his third child and second son. At that time, Thompson publicly acknowledged his relationship with Kardashian and issued a public apology to her for being unfaithful with model Maralee Nichols.
"Today, paternity test results confirm that I am the father of a child with Maralee Nichols," he shared on his Instagram story. "I take full accountability for my actions. Now that paternity has been established, I am committed to co-parenting our son with Maralee."
Thompson also addressed Kardashian directly in his statement, expressing remorse.
"Khloé, you don't deserve this. You don't deserve the pain and embarrassment I've caused you," he wrote. "I've mistreated you over the years, and my behavior hasn't reflected the love and respect I have for you. Regardless of your perception, I hold you in the highest regard."

Kardashian aims to be a ‘maternal influence’ for niece Dream
Despite being part of a large family and an aunt to 10 children, Kardashian feels a special connection that goes beyond the typical aunt-niece relationship with one particular child.
In Season Three, Episode Eight of "The Kardashians," Kardashian opened up about her role in the life of her 6-year-old niece, Dream, expressing that she sees herself as a "third parent" to her.
"I understand how crucial it is for Dream to have strong maternal guidance — whether it's from me, her own mother, or anyone else. It's vital, and she will receive it from wherever it comes," Kardashian shared on the show.
Scott Disick also chimed in, acknowledging Kardashian's significant role in Dream's upbringing. "I'm amazed by how much you're like a co-parent to Dream. You're more than just an aunt," he remarked.
"Perhaps more than an aunt, but essentially a third parent," Kardashian responded.
In her confessional, Kardashian further elaborated on her maternal instincts, expressing, "Dream is just as much my child as all the others, and I adore being a mother figure to people. It's a part of who I am, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
She later clarified her sentiments on her Instagram story, as reported by People, emphasizing her deep love for all her nieces and nephews but highlighting her particularly close bond with Dream.
"My brother and I share an incredibly close bond. I spend a lot of time with Dream because I'm often with my brother," she wrote. "I cherish her immensely. True and Dream are inseparable, and I feel incredibly fortunate that they share such a strong bond."
Kardashian is committed to maintaining peace with her ex
Despite no longer being together, Kardashian and Thompson have demonstrated a strong commitment to co-parenting their children.
In a June 2023 episode of "The Kardashians," Kardashian offered fans a glimpse into her dynamic with the father of her two kids.
"Tristan and I, we always have a great rapport," Kardashian remarked about her ex-partner. "We maintain a solid friendship. We coexist just fine. When it comes to my children, I prioritize their well-being above all else. Holding onto past grievances serves no purpose. I don't see the need to penalize him because we're not reconciling."
During the same episode, Kardashian discussed the importance of establishing clear boundaries to maintain a healthy and platonic relationship with her ex. She emphasized the necessity of ensuring that Thompson only visits her residence when their children are present.
"These boundaries are crucial in my interactions with Tristan, especially given our history of reconciling after previous challenges," Kardashian confided in her mother, Kris Jenner. "I understand why he might perceive that as a possibility. It's incumbent upon me to establish boundaries that reflect my intentions."
