Expressing the profound sorrow of the situation, Huffman mentioned, "No one should have to go through this horrible situation." The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Route 24 in the small city of Rushville, raised questions about why the bus deviated into oncoming traffic. The Illinois State Police took charge of the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision.

As of now, the names of the victims have not been publicly disclosed. The impact of the loss was keenly felt in the region of the crash, Schuyler County, characterized by a population of fewer than 7,000 people and spanning 441 square miles on the west side of the state, according to Sheriff Bill Redshaw.
