Authorities are investigating the tragic shooting of an 18-year-old woman near a dormitory at Delaware State University early Sunday morning.
The Dover Police Department reported that campus police received a call about gunfire at 1:40 a.m. near Warren-Franklin Hall and arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Although the young woman, who has not yet been identified, was found on campus, she was not a student of the university. She was from Wilmington, a city about 50 miles north of the university.
According to the police, "Officers rendered aid to the victim and she was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment. Tragically, the 18-year-old died at the hospital as a result of her injuries."
The Dover Police Department has opened a homicide investigation and is collaborating with Delaware State University Police to investigate the matter and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No additional information is currently available, as the investigation is ongoing.
